Are you ready to bring on your next hire but don’t know where to start? You’re in luck, friend! Here are 5 steps to hiring your next employee!
A few reasons it might be time for you to hire someone…
If you nodded your head to any of these, it may be time to hire on a new employee. Luckily, we are here to help with the hiring process & have 5 steps that will help you during your next hire.
Before you can start the hiring process, you have to make sure that you are in the position to hire someone. What we mean by that is: Your company must have enough revenue to support the position! Once your company is financially able to support the position, then you can start the hiring process.
Step 1 – Evaluate what you actually need to hire for
Something that we always do when we are deciding what position we need to hire for is the notecard exercise. During the notecard exercise, each employee writes down their tasks on a separate notecard & how long it takes to complete each task. Then, we look at all the tasks and decide what could be taken off of our plates and given to a new hire. This will help us determine exactly what kind of position we need to be filled.
Step 2 – Create the position
We must define the position, create a job description, and title the position before we do anything else. Then, we can start marketing it! Any creative role, we like to put out on Instagram. Any warehouse role, we try to hire based on word of mouth or websites like LinkedIn.
Step 3 – The hiring process
Once you have some applications, then you can start the actual hiring process! We like for our first round to be a group or virtual interviews. Then, those who make it through that round get a project related to the position. Once we have narrowed it down to about half, we have in-person interviews! For us, these interviews are pretty relaxed. We really just want to get to know them and see if they would be a good fit for our team. Lastly, once you’ve found the one, it’s time to hire them.
Step 4 – Training Process
It’s important that for your new employee’s first week that you map out each day, create SOP’s for the position, and meet regularly with them. We want to set them up with success so that they feel confident in their new job with you!
Step 5 – Check-in regularly with them
It’s important to check in regularly with them to be sure that they feel good about their new position! We like to do 30, 60, and 90-day check-ins. Give them room to fly when they’re ready!
We hope these 5 steps to hiring your next employee were helpful for your company! As always, feel free to message us on Instagram if you have any questions.
