I think we can all come to an agreement that core values are the moral compass to your business. They create a pathway to help your business stay on track to achieve your set goals, and fulfill your purpose as a united team. Are your core values a little dated? Or, maybe you haven’t thought about them in a while. Here are some of our thoughts on why core values are, well, valuable. 

How do I generate core values?

What are you, as a business, owner, an employee, passionate about? What makes your heart race, or your blood boil? What gets you excited to come into work everyday? Whatever this entails, it should be reflected in your company’s core values. They should be a reflection of who you are, and in turn, your team. 

Why are they important to my business? 

To put it simply – your core values are you. They are what you stand for, and what you intend others to immediately recognize about you. They shape and define your space in more ways than one – think your working environment/office, your productivity, even your attitude. They establish your company culture each morning that you walk through the door, and should align with your personal and company brand. 

Relative to our situation today, reviewing and leaning into your core values in times of need is imperative for the survival of your business, and quite frankly your sanity. Think of them as the instruction manual to your team. These values should be something relatable and reviewable at any point of the progression of your business, successes or failures. Read them aloud, remind yourself and each other, use them as an encouragement for pushing through tough times or a gentle reminder of why you do what you do! 

Your core values are the who, the what, the when, the where, and especially “why” of why you are the business that you are. With distinguished values, you will attract like-minded clients and fellow businesses that also resonate in the same beliefs, creating a bond or loyalty to your brand, potentially even a friendship.
