Working from home, for many, has become the new normal. If you are anything like us, you may have thought remote working would be temporary, but it’s likely becoming the new normal. And unfortunately, many homes (ours included) weren’t designed to be a business HQ. So, after spending nearly 6 months WFH, we thought we’d share some of our team’s WFH tips –
Now that WFH has become the new normal, it’s time to upgrade from the dining room table! Creating a designated space to come to each day and house all of your work essentials has been a complete game changer! Whether in a spare room, an upstairs loft, or a corner nook, dedicate a space just for work. Don’t want to spend a lot on a desk? Get creative with the furniture you already have or snag one off of Facebook Market.
We’re not scientists, so we won’t even try to explain what sunlight can do for your body (+mood), but let me tell you IT WORKS. Since moving near a window, I’ve seen an increase in my productivity, focus, creativity, and overall mood. Take it a step further and add a plant into the mix. Need convincing? Check out these facts.
You did it at the office, so why not do it at home? Take your lunch break outside, go for a walk, or call a friend to catch up. These mini brain breaks will allow you to come back to your work with a fresh perspective and a renewed energy. The key here is intentionality! You must plan and schedule these breaks, or they likely won’t happen!
Zoom fatigue is very real, and the amount of work required to pull off a successful virtual meeting may deplete your energy for the rest of the day. In an attempt to stay connected while productive, our team adopted an every-other meeting schedule. We meet every day but switch between video conference calls to quick phone calls to check in. Find a schedule that works best for you and your team’s needs. Checking in with your coworkers to identify their needs is essential for maintaining collaboration.
Our biggest piece of advice for working from home is giving coworkers, clients, and most importantly yourself grace. This season is full of uncertainty and change, so flexibility is key to maintaining relationships (+ your sanity). Stay open to new possibilities but voice your needs as well!
